Sanford is located in Central Florida and situated just northeast of Downtown Orlando. It is conveniently located on the southern shore of Lake Monroe and is known as the “Historic Waterfront Gateway City”.
Several Central Florida attractions, such as The Ritz Theater and The Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens, are located in Sanford.
The cornerstone of the city is quaint historic downtown that overlooks Lake Monroe. The downtown boasts brick lined streets, towering oaks, and elegant store-fronts. There are many unique shops, restaurants, and microbreweries housed in the downtown area. A farmers market takes place each Saturday morning at the Sanford Marketplace at Magnolia, which is located just off 1st Street.
First Street overlooks the beautiful shore Lake Monroe and RiverWalk. Lake Monroe provides access to the St. Johns River and there are multiple marinas that provide access boaters access to Lake Monroe. The Sanford RiverWalk is a multi-use pedestrian trail that is nearly 5-miles long. It encircles Lake Monroe and provides recreational uses to both residents and visitors. A segment of it is located right in front of HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital.
